Mike Hope Overview
I spent over twenty-five years working in Higher Education at four Universities (North Staffordshire, Portsmouth, Nottingham Trent and Plymouth) undertaking lecturing, research and senior management roles. For nearly thirty years I have been running summer school programmes, in a number of locations. I have lectured around the world, sat on many national and international boards – I was a founder board member of the European Academy of Design. I have a large list of publications, and have for over thirty years been a freelance designer. I was the founder Director of Peninsula Arts at the University of Plymouth. I have researched and curated many exhibitions including international travelling exhibitions.
Since 1999, I have been advisor to the Bishop and Diocese of Exeter for stained glass and am a member of the DAC (Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches)
I currently run my own creative/research consultancy and a specialist cultural travel and lecture organisation, ‘Spirit of the Place’. I specialise in Art, Architectural and Design History, Art Nouveau and Art Deco, Modernism, Stained Glass, Churches and Cathedrals as well as the English Country House and Garden.
For the last four years I have worked on a freelance basis for Travel Editions, being one of their specialist expert lecturers for their Art & History Abroad and UK Programmes.
