Mike Hope spent over twenty-five years working in Higher Education at four Universities (North Staffordshire, Portsmouth, Nottingham Trent and Plymouth) undertaking lecturing, research and senior management roles. For nearly thirty years he has been running summer school programmes, in a number of locations. He has lectured around the world, sat on many national and international boards – he was a founder board member of the European Academy of Design. He has a large list of publications, and has for over thirty years been a freelance designer. He was the founder Director of Peninsula Arts at the University of Plymouth. He has researched and curated many exhibitions including international travelling exhibitions.
Since 1999, he has been advisor to the Bishop and Diocese of Exeter for stained glass and is a member of the DAC (Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches)
He currently runs his own creative/research consultancy and a specialist cultural travel and lecture organisation, ‘Spirit of the Place’. He specializes in Art, Architectural and Design History, Art Nouveau and Art Deco, Modernism, Stained Glass, Churches and Cathedrals as well as the English Country House and Garden.
For the last four years he has worked on a freelance basis for Travel Editions, being one of their specialist expert lecturers for their Art & History Abroad and UK Programmes.
